Since the ‘heavy’1 vowels are pronounced in the same way as what has been taught and learned as [i] and [u] in schools, the vowel letters < i > and < u > should be used for the ‘heavy’ vowels. Two extra vowel symbols are therefore needed for the ‘light’ vowels, and these are < ɨ > and < ʉ > for the light vowels. The seven vowels needed for writing Lʉgbarati will then be the following:
